15 Must-have Essentials for Your Camper

As I’m writing this, the snow is blowing, it’s a balmy 16 degrees and all I can think of is going to the camper and enjoying those long summer days, sipping some wine and lounging in flip flops and shorts.

But you know when you’re at the camper, inevitably, you forget something, or you’ve taken so much with you that you are immediately out of space. So since I was thinking about the lazy, crazy days of summer, I started shopping on Amazon for things that would make my life easier when summer finally gets here.

One of the first things we do when we are parking the camper is to make sure it’s level. I found these really cool levels. they come in a pack of four and they’re cheap. The best part is that they are magnetic so you can put them anywhere to make sure the camper is level.

As you open the camper, you need to get the groceries put away, the beds made and get the garbage can out. Right now, we have to store ours in the bathtub for travel. But I just found this amazing collapsible garbage can on Amazon. It will fold up and go under the kitchen sink. It folds up to 14 1/2 inches X 11 inches and is only 2 inches thick. WOW!!!! and it holds a regular sized garbage bag. what a perfect find!

I don’t know about you, but I always find I need more space. I never have enough room for my clothes and then once I’ve worn them I have no place to put them. I usually just chuck them under the bed in a garbage bag until I can get home to do laundry. The bedroom isn’t big enough for a hamper and a dresser - right?

Well here’s a solution for both problems.

I found on Amazon an over the door laundry hamper that will either hook up with suction cups or hang on hooks. It’s 20 inches X 30 inches, waterproof and unzips to get the dirty clothes out. This thing is awesome!!

Staying in the bedroom for a few minutes more. I mentioned I never have enough space for my clothes in the camper. Here is a solution if you’re having the same problem. This five bin closet organizer has five bins and 10 side pockets and can hold up to 44 pounds. That’s a lot of socks and underwear. It fits right over a door with metal L brackets and will help you out with where to store all the little things. You could even use it in the bathroom for wash cloths or soap and shampoo.

When you cook at the camper, do you find you always have leftovers? Well we do, and honestly, I don’t have neough room to carry all my Tupperware. But check out what I found on Amazon! It’s a set of 8 collapsible food containers. When they aren’t in use they get small, but when you’re ready to use them, they expand to up to 40 0z. They are microwave and freezer safe and aren’t super expensive.

For the longest time I didn’t have a colander in the camper that was big enough to deal with family spaghetti night. Or big enough to wash a salad. Then I found this: A 9 in 1 chopping board, colander and knife set. It comes with two knives, a cheese grater and four slicers all built into a collapsible colander that doubles as a cutting board. How freakin cool is that? When you’re done, it folds up and goes under the sink! I am in love!!!!!

Now of course when you’re cutting and chopping you have some waste. How darn convenient would it be to be able to just push the garbage into a small bin at the sink. I mean it’s not like you have a garbage disposal. But you could have this. Check it out. This is a collapsible waste bin that attaches to your kitchen cabinet door. When you’re finished with it. Remove the small bag, throw it away and then put away your waste bin. Perfect for the camper!!!

I’ve been using this next product for years at my camper. It’s a collapsible (are you noticing a theme?) dish drying rack. I don’t tent camp anymore, but when I did, this thing was perfect to sit on the picnic table and let the sun dry the dishes. side note - I HATE washing silverware… Anyway, now that I have a camper, I still use this bad boy and in case you didn’t catch this with the other products, when I’m done with it, it collapses and I put it under the sink.

You know, a camper bathroom can be a rather unpleasant place, especially if you have more than a couple people using it. I really, really recommend having a pack of these on hand anytime you take the camper out. These black holding tank deodorizers will do the trick. I always put one in the toilet right after we open the camper and then a couple days later if we’re staying for more than a weekend. These really keep the place smelling good.

One of my pet peeves is that once we get the camper parked, the truck keys and the camper keys get thrown on the kitchen counter. It’s a camper, there isn’t that much space. But I found this really cool thing to get the keys off the counter and in a place that will keep them safe and not get lost! This 3 hook key holder attaches right to the wall with adhesive sticky tape. Put them right next to the door so that you’ll always know where your keys are. I love this! They also come in a 4 hook version.

It’s almost time to relax, but the lights just went out, or the microwave doesn’t work, or the refrigerator won’t turn on. Don’t panic, it’s probably just a fuse. You can and should carry a few spares because these do blow a lot! Especially on the hitch! Just sayin. Anyway, while I was shopping I found a 140 pcs. fuse kit. I’m thinking you’d never run out, but hey, it’s better to have and not need than to need and not have. Right? Trust me, your husband will love this!

It’s finally time for some relaxation! These next four items will make you REALLY love camping. The first one will make your life a little easier at night, plus they are really cool. These are magnetic, motion activated under steps lights. If you have to take the dog out at 3 a.m. and you want to be a good neighbor and not put all the lights on outside, these will help you be able to see while your pup is doing his or her thing. the best part is they turn on when they sense motion (you and the dog) but they will turn off within 18 seconds of NOT detecting motion. pretty cool huh??? Oh and since they’re magnetic, you don’t have to put them under your steps, you can slap them to the side of the camper, or inside the cubby so you can see. Get a couple of sets and put them all over the place.

Since we’re outside, it’s time to make s’mores! I found these really cool s’mores sticks on Amazon. the handles are color coded so the kids and grandkids don’t get their’s mistaken for their brother’s. The sticks are metal with a wooden handle and they extend or retract so you are always a safe distance from the fire. When you’re all done, clean them up and store them in their own carrying case. These take roasting marshmallows up a notch!

There’s one more thing you need to do before you can put your feet up. You need to put your personalized metal sign out at the front of the campsite. After all, how will people know who you are and where you’re from if you don’t put this out? This one I found on Amazon is cute and they will customize it with your names and location. I chose the happy camper one because you can’t be a happy camper unless first you’re happy.

It’s finally time to put your feet up and have a nice adult beverage. I take these chairs with me every time I go camping because they are perfect to kick back and take an afternoon nap.
